Original Yugoslav M72B1 RPK Cold Hammer Forged Barrel – 7.62x39 – Shiny Bore – Passed the Muzzle Test!
This is the pick of the litter. Out of our batch of original Yugoslav M72B1 RPK barrels, these are the best of the bunch — shiny bores with a good amount of rifling, and every single one passed our muzzle wear test. If you’ve been waiting for a top-grade original barrel for your M72 build, this is the one.
These aren’t reproductions. Every one is a genuine cold hammer forged, military-production barrel chambered in 7.62x39, 21¼ inches long, built to soldier through the hard demands of military service in the legendary M72B1 — and getting harder to find every year, especially in Good+ used condition. Marring and pull marks may be present from pulling the barrel off the firearm.
The M72B1 is widely regarded as one of the finest RPK-pattern rifles ever fielded — heavy-profile barrel, robust construction, and reliability that won’t quit. Original barrels are one of the hardest components to source for any serious M72 project, and these check the one box no reproduction ever can: they’re the real thing.

Condition — The Straight Talk
These barrels are military surplus — previously installed, previously used, and they wear that history. Overall condition is Good+, and every barrel will vary. Expect some combination of:
- Finish wear
- Demilling marks
- Galling from removal from the trunnion
- Handling marks
- Storage wear
- Minor cosmetic blemishes
Bores in this grade are bright and shiny with a good amount of rifling — that’s exactly what puts a barrel in this grade.
How We Grade These: The Muzzle Wear Test (Bullet Drop Test)
Every barrel in this listing has passed the muzzle wear test — a simple visual inspection of wear at the muzzle crown, the spot that matters most for accuracy.
We take an unfired 7.62x39 projectile and insert it point-first into the muzzle:
Pass: the bullet stops before reaching the case mouth, leaving a significant portion of the projectile exposed. The rifling at the crown is intact and will stabilize a bullet the way it should.
Fail: the bullet drops deep into the barrel and approaches the case mouth (touching the ogive). That means excessive muzzle wear, and accuracy may suffer.
Barrels that fail get sorted into a separate, lower grade — based solely on muzzle wear. These passed.
Collector’s Note
Nobody is making original Yugoslav M72B1 barrels anymore, and the surplus pipeline is drying up. Whether you’re restoring an original M72B1, finishing out a parts kit, or adding authentic military components to your collection, this is quality, history, and authenticity a reproduction barrel simply can’t match — and this is the best grade we’ve got.
