The Weatherby Select Plus line is Weatherby's premium hunting ammunition, and this load chambers the 280 Ackley Improved with a 150-grain Swift Scirocco bonded projectile. The 280 Ackley Improved was developed by P.O. Ackley, who steepened the .280 Remington case shoulder to 40 degrees to increase powder capacity and deliver a meaningful jump in velocity and energy over the parent cartridge.

The Swift Scirocco bonded bullet is built for deep penetration and reliable expansion on big game at longer ranges. In this Select Plus load, the 150-grain bullet leaves the muzzle at 2925 fps and carries 2849 ft lbs of energy, giving hunters a flat trajectory and plenty of knockdown for elk, moose, and other large North American game. Loaded in a brass case to Weatherby's tight tolerances, this round is built for consistent accuracy in Weatherby Mark V and Vanguard rifles.
