The Spyderco Civilian C12GS is a purpose-built folding knife with a distinctive deeply curved reverse-S blade profile originally designed as a self-defense carry tool for plainclothes use. Its 4.09" blade is ground from VG-10 stainless steel with a satin finish and SpyderEdge serrations running the length of the cutting edge for aggressive, sustained slicing. The thin, leaf-like grind maximizes cut depth while the upswept tip and full belly concentrate force into the working edge.

The knife deploys one-handed via Spyderco's signature round thumb hole and locks open with a classic lockback mechanism equipped with the Boye Dent safety feature, which helps prevent accidental release under heavy cutting pressure. The handle is fitted with textured black G10 scales for a secure grip in wet or dry conditions and carries a lined lanyard hole at the rear. A removable two-position steel pocket clip mounts at the pivot end, supporting ambidextrous tip-up or tip-down carry.
