The Pietta 1858 Remington Brass Sheriff is a single-action cap-and-ball revolver chambered in .44 caliber for black powder shooting. Manufactured by F.LLI Pietta in Italy and imported by EMF Company, this Sheriff variant trims the original Remington New Model Army profile down to a more compact 5.5" blued octagonal steel barrel mated to a matching blued steel 6-shot cylinder.
The frame and trigger guard are finished in polished brass, giving this model the two-tone look that defines the Brass Sheriff variant. The action runs single-action only with Pietta's striker-fired ignition system, in which the hammer drives a transfer bar to detonate the cap on each chamber. Sights are minimal and period-correct: a blade front with the hammer notch serving as a rear sight, and the octagonal barrel carries a 1:30" twist for stabilizing round balls and conical lead projectiles.
Grips are checkered walnut, fitted to the brass frame in the traditional Remington pattern. The 1858 Sheriff is a popular choice for cowboy-action competition, historical reenactment, and recreational black powder shooting with .44 caliber round balls or .457" conicals loaded over black powder and topped with #11 percussion caps.
