The Lee Precision 90785 Taper Crimp Die is a hardened-steel reloading die built to apply a precise, consistent taper crimp on finished pistol cases. Used as the final step in the reloading process, it removes the flare left by the expander die, sets the proper case mouth diameter, and produces uniform crimp tension so rounds feed reliably and ignite consistently. The Lee 90785 is sold as a New production die, ready to drop onto any standard reloading press.
This is a true multi-caliber die, factory-rated for 45 ACP, 45 Auto Rim, 45 Schofield, 455 Webley Mark, and 2/45 Winchester Magnum. The taper crimp geometry is the correct choice for auto-pistol cartridges like the 45 ACP, where a roll crimp would deform the bullet or interfere with magazine feeding in semi-auto pistols, and it works equally well on the longer revolver cases that share the same .45-caliber bullet diameter.
The die is machined from hardened steel to address the crimp inconsistencies caused by softer, poorly designed dies, and is threaded 7/8"-14 for use on virtually any standard reloading press that accepts the large-series thread pattern. The Lee 90785 ships as a single die only (no shellholder is included; the correct Lee shellholder for the cartridge being loaded is sold separately), and is supplied in a storage box to keep the die protected on the reloading bench.
From loading practice and competition 45 ACP for a 1911-style pistol, to restoring original 45 Schofield and 455 Webley revolver ammunition, to working up handloads for the 2/45 Winchester Magnum, the Lee Precision 90785 is a versatile, economical crimp die for the serious handloader.
