The Hornady Sub-X (Subsonic-eXpanding) is a heavy 395 grain .452 inch diameter rifle bullet purpose-built for 45 caliber subsonic loads, including 450 Bushmaster. The Sub-X line is engineered to deliver reliable expansion well below the speed of sound, making it a strong option for handloaders building heavy subsonic hunting ammunition.
At the heart of the design is Hornady's patented Flex Tip polymer tip, which initiates reliable expansion at velocities as low as 900 fps, well below the threshold at which most conventional expanding projectiles will open. The polymer tip is seated into a brass jacket over a lead core, and a cannelure is present for positive case-mouth crimping during the reloading process. With a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.300 and a sectional density of 0.276, the 395 grain Sub-X is engineered to retain mass, penetrate deeply, and still expand reliably on impact.
Hornady states that Sub-X terminal performance meets or exceeds FBI protocol terminal ballistic test requirements. The Sub-X shares its Flex Tip platform with Hornady's other expanding projectiles and is suitable for use in semi-automatic rifle platforms where reliable feeding and expansion at low velocity are both essential.
Each box contains 50 projectiles, with 15 boxes per case (750 per case). Sold per box.
