The Hornady SST (Super Shock Tip) is a premium rifle bullet built around a polymer-tipped, copper-jacketed design with a lead core, engineered for handloaders who demand rapid expansion, maximum energy transfer, and match-grade accuracy from their 8mm (.323) rifle ammunition.

This 170-grain projectile combines a streamlined profile with Hornady's signature polymer tip to initiate expansion at a wide range of velocities while delivering ultra-flat trajectories in the field. The tip also acts as a streamlined nose cone that improves the bullet's ballistic coefficient and protects the hollow-point cavity from being deformed during handling and feeding.

A match-grade copper jacket wraps the lead core with consistent wall thickness for surgical accuracy, while a cannelure in the shank locks the core and jacket together and provides a positive crimp seat for handloaded rounds. The SST design is intended to deliver tremendous shock on impact, expanding quickly and reliably at higher velocities, making it well suited for hunting applications.

With a ballistic coefficient of .445 and a sectional density of .233, the 8mm 170-grain SST offers excellent retained energy and penetration at common hunting ranges. These are reloading components only, intended for handloading 8mm rifle cartridges.
