The Hornady DGS (Dangerous Game Solid) is a heavy, flat-nose rifle reloading bullet purpose-built for .470 caliber dangerous game cartridges carried on safari and used in heavy brush where deep penetration through thick hide, dense muscle, and heavy bone is non-negotiable. Sized at .474 inches in diameter and weighing 500 grains, the DGS is built to drive straight through whatever it strikes, and ships as factory New Condition stock direct from Hornady.

Hornady constructs the DGS around an antimony lead core wrapped in a copper-clad steel jacket, combining the mass and toughness needed to break through the largest, toughest game. The flat, wide nose profile resists bullet deformation and deflection on impact, transferring maximum energy to the target and producing a deep, straight wound channel rather than a wide but shallow one. A cannelure provides a positive crimp seat for handloaders, and the bullet carries a ballistic coefficient of .290 with a sectional density of .316.
