The Hornady Custom Cowboy cartridge is purpose-built for Cowboy Action Shooting, casual target practice, and traditional revolver and lever-action use in 45 Colt (also known as 45 Long Colt). Loaded in a brass case, this round reproduces the mild, accurate performance expected of original-period hardball with the consistency of modern Hornady manufacturing.

The bullet is a 255-grain lead flat point, a traditional profile that is easy to load and trim. Its distinctive knurled bearing surface is designed to hold an even layer of lubricating wax along the entire bearing surface, which minimizes leading in the bore and keeps smoke down during long strings of rapid fire. The Cowboy load is tuned to a muzzle velocity of 725 fps and produces 298 ft lbs of energy at the muzzle, the gentle pressures appropriate for vintage single-action revolvers and lever rifles used in Cowboy Action competition.

Specifications are measured from a 4.75" V-barrel, the standard reference length for this cartridge family. Each box contains 20 rounds, and ten boxes are packed to a case for 200 total rounds.
