The Franklin Armory OPS-16 Binary is a 5.56x45mm NATO semi-automatic rifle built around a self-regulating gas piston operating system. Part of Franklin Armory's Osprey Defense Series, it delivers the familiar AR-platform manual of arms in a duty-ready configuration without the manual tuning that direct-impingement systems often require.
Up front sits a 16-inch LTW (lightweight) contour barrel machined from 4140 steel with a nitride finish and a 1:7" twist for reliable stabilization across a wide range of bullet weights. The black anodized aluminum receiver carries a full-length Picatinny top rail for optics mounting, while the free-float M-LOK handguard allows accessory attachment along the sides and bottom of the forend. The muzzle is threaded and capped with a Triumvir flash hider.
At the trigger is Franklin Armory's BFSIII AR-Essential Binary trigger, giving the operator a conventional semi-automatic pull as well as Binary mode - which fires one round on the pull and a second round on the release for rapid follow-up shots. Controls follow the standard AR-platform layout, including a lever safety selector. Factory iron sights are not included, letting the end user pair the platform with their preferred red dot, holographic, or magnified optic on the included rail.
Dressed for duty and defensive use, the OPS-16 ships with a B5 Systems SOPMOD collapsible polymer stock and a B5 P-Type 23 pistol grip. The rifle feeds from a 30-round detachable magazine and comes in at approximately 6 lbs 14 oz unloaded. The self-regulating piston design runs cleanly across varied temperatures, conditions, and ammunition types, making it a turnkey choice for home defense, patrol, and range work.
