The Cold Steel Viking Hand Axe is a historically inspired fighting axe that brings classic Norse design into a modern, functional tool. Designed as a collaboration between Cold Steel founder Lynn C. Thompson and custom bladesmiths Dave Baker and Rich McDonald, the Viking Hand Axe pairs an extra broad 6" cutting edge with a hooking beard and an up-swept thrusting horn for versatile chopping, hooking, and thrusting capability.
The head is forged from 1055 carbon steel, a tough and shock-resistant alloy chosen to handle heavy chopping and impact work without chipping. A plain edge profile keeps sharpening straightforward in the field. The axe is mounted on a stout 30" straight handle turned from American hickory, prized for its strength, shock absorption, and comfortable grip. Overall weight comes in at 17.60 oz, giving the axe substantial heft for powerful swings while remaining manageable for one-handed carry.
Whether displayed as part of a Viking-themed collection, carried to camp for processing kindling and brush, or used for historical reenactment, the Viking Hand Axe delivers the look and feel of an authentic Norse-era fighting axe with modern construction quality. No sheath is included with this axe; a compatible Cor-Ex sheath is sold separately.
