The Case Sod Buster is a classic American working-man's pocket knife, handcrafted in the USA by Case XX in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Part of Case's long-running Sod Buster family (pattern 3138 CS, model 00038), this traditional folding skinner is built around a single blade and the company's signature slip-joint action - a time-tested design that has been a barn, field, and pocket favorite for generations.
The 3.70" skinner blade is drop-point shaped for clean, sweeping cuts and is stamped from Chrome Vanadium (CV) carbon steel with a tumble-polished (mirror) finish. The steel is given a plain edge for easy field sharpening, and CV takes and holds a working edge exceptionally well, though Case recommends a light coat of oil after use to prevent rust, pitting, and discoloration. Carbon steel is favored by outdoorsmen for its ability to be sharpened to a keen working edge in the field.
Handle scales are molded from smooth yellow synthetic (Delrin) and pinned to brass liners, giving the knife a bright, easy-to-spot profile in a pack or pocket. The slip-joint opens manually with a match-strike nail nick and provides just enough resistance to keep the blade safely closed during carry. At 4.63" closed and weighing approximately 3.4 oz, the Sod Buster slips easily into a jeans pocket without becoming a burden during a long day of skinning game, dressing game, or general utility work around the farm, ranch, or hunting camp.
Whether you're looking for a traditional everyday carry folder, a dedicated hunting and skinning knife, or an iconic American-made Case knife to round out a collection, the Yellow Synthetic Sod Buster delivers the same proven pattern that has defined Case's working-class folders for decades.
