After a tremendous amount of time and treasure, the P38 is once again available. These P38s are German-manufactured. Aluminum framed and in good condition. A visual inspection shows that they have been in storage for many years, and sentiment has filled the nook and crannies of the firearm. The bores are dirty, and the one I swabbed looked nice and shiny with lovely grooves. Most are marked "Carl Walther Waffenfabrik Ulm/Do" with P38 Cal. 9mm stamped underneath on the left side of the slide and the date stamp on the right side. There are proof marks on most pieces, and those with the last three digits of the serial number on the slide matched the final three numbers on the alloy frame.

Introducing the Walther P38 9mm Locked-Breech Pistol, a timeless classic that blends history, innovation, and precision engineering into one iconic firearm. This legendary handgun is the epitome of German craftsmanship and a symbol of military heritage.

History:

The Walther P38 was first introduced in 1938 as a result of the German military's search for a more modern and efficient sidearm to replace the aging Luger P08. Developed by Carl Walther GmbH, the P38 was designed to meet the demanding requirements of the German Army, featuring a unique locked-breech design, a double-action/single-action trigger, and an external hammer.

During World War II, the P38 became the standard sidearm for the German Wehrmacht and was also used by the Luftwaffe and various police forces. Its exceptional performance and durability made it a favorite among soldiers and officers alike. After the war, the P38 continued to be used by various military and police forces worldwide, including the West German Bundeswehr and the French military.

Product Description:

The Walther P38 9mm Locked-Breech Pistol is a semi-automatic handgun that features a unique locked-breech design, which provides increased accuracy and reliability. Its barrel length is 4.9 inches (125mm), with an overall length of 8.6 inches (218mm), making it a comfortable size for both open and concealed carry.

Key Features:

  1. Caliber: Chambered in the versatile and widely available 9mm Luger (9x19mm Parabellum) cartridge, providing a perfect balance of power, accuracy, and manageable recoil.

  2. Locked-Breech Design: This innovative design increases accuracy by ensuring consistent lockup between the barrel and slide, resulting in improved shot-to-shot consistency and reduced wear on internal components.

  3. Double-Action/Single-Action Trigger: The P38 offers a double-action trigger for the first shot and a lighter, single-action trigger for subsequent shots, providing a unique blend of safety and speed.

  4. External Hammer: The P38 features an exposed hammer that allows for easy thumb-cocking, as well as visual and tactile confirmation of the hammer's position.

  5. Manual Safety/Decocker: This intuitive feature allows the user to safely decock the hammer and engage the safety with one simple motion, ensuring the firearm is always in a safe condition when not in use.

  6. Durable Construction: The P38 is constructed with a high-quality steel frame and slide, providing exceptional durability and longevity, even under harsh conditions.

  7. Capacity: The pistol has a standard magazine capacity of 8 rounds, offering a balance between size and firepower.

Whether you're a collector, history enthusiast, or simply appreciate the quality and performance of a classic firearm, the Walther P38 9mm Locked-Breech Pistol is an excellent addition to any collection. Own a piece of history and experience the precision engineering that has made the P38 a trusted sidearm for generations.

Was greatly surprised with my p38 in really good condition with some wear but nothing that couldn’t be fixed. Happy with another purchase form centerfire, I look forward to everything else they bring in!

    Walther P38

Picked up my P38 from Centerfire Systems Tuesday morning, overall, I am very satisfied with what I received. Outside of a very odd wear mark on the left hand side of the frame, doesn't look like normal holster wear. The banner appears to have been repeatedly scratched over, my example is in great shape, as advertised! I've seen some that appear to be close to unissued and some with honest wear, like mine. I prefer the latter personally. I would recommend picking one of these up while you can. Never thought I'd have the opportunity to buy one on the primary market and I'm excited to be able to expand my collection into the early cold war era.
