The Taylor's & Company 1874 Down Under is a faithful reproduction of the legendary 1874 Sharps single-shot rifle, chambered in the powerful .45-70 Government cartridge. Part of the Chiappa-manufactured Sharps line, this Down Under variant is built around a long 32" blued octagon barrel paired with a fixed oiled walnut stock shaped for right-hand shooters and capped with a Hartford-style pewter forend tip. The color case hardened finish is applied across the steel frame, patchbox, butt plate, and breech lever, giving the action a classic mottled appearance against the deep bluing of the barrel.
Built around a classic break-open action, the rifle carries a double set trigger and a tang safety, and feeds a single round at a time. It measures 49" overall and tips the scales at 10.60 lbs, a substantial package aimed squarely at hunting and target shooting. Sights consist of a dovetail blade front paired with a dovetail ladder rear, and the barrel is cut with a 1:18" twist for stabilizing heavy .45-70 Gov projectiles.
