The Savage Axis 2 Compact in 400 Legend is a left-handed bolt-action hunting rifle purpose-built for hunters after a shorter, more maneuverable platform in straight-walled country. Savage overhauled the Axis line with sharper ergonomics and modern materials while keeping the price accessible, and this Compact model pairs a 20" heavy sporter barrel in matte black with a fixed Flat Dark Earth synthetic stock sized for tight cover in the treestand or blind.

The action is Savage's signature bolt design with the user-adjustable AccuTrigger, mounted in a matte black carbon steel receiver that is drilled and tapped for your choice of scope bases. The heavy sporter contour adds barrel mass to help tame recoil and steady the bore, and Savage pairs it with a 1:16" twist suited to common 400 Legend bullet weights. Capacity is 4+1 from a detachable box magazine.

At 39.50" overall and roughly 6.30 lbs, the Compact trims size and weight compared to a full-length Axis 2, making it easier to maneuver in close cover without giving up the AccuTrigger's crisp break. Sights are not included, so you can mount the optic of your choice directly to the factory-drilled receiver.
