The Hornady FTX is a .45 caliber (.452"), 225 gr jacketed projectile built around Hornady's patented Flex Tip eXpanding technology. Originally developed to give lever-action rifles safe, accurate, expanding-bullet performance from tubular magazines, the FTX uses a soft polymer tip in place of an exposed lead nose so it cannot contact and set off a round seated ahead of it in the magazine tube.
On impact, the polymer tip is driven back into the nose of the bullet, initiating controlled expansion across a wide velocity range. A lead core is mechanically locked to a heavy copper jacket by Hornady's signature InterLock ring, promoting high weight retention and deep penetration on medium and large game. The secant ogive profile combined with the protected tip delivers a flat trajectory and consistent accuracy from rifles like the .45 Colt lever gun, while a cannelure provides a positive crimp point for roll-crimp handloads.
Each box contains 100 bullets at the published ballistic coefficient of .145 and sectional density of .157. Cases are packed 15 boxes per case. These are reloading components - projectiles only - intended for the handloader assembling .45 Colt (and other .452" bore) ammunition.
