As one of the oldest defense companies of Romania, Cugir Arms Factory has a history that can be traced back to 1799 during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The steel manufacturing workshops founded in Cugir, Romania prior to this are of the first metallurgical factories in Transylvania. Cugir Arms Factory now produces NATO-spec PM md. 63 pistols, GP 75 AKM series of Kalashnikov rifles, and the WASR-series semi-auto AKM variant rifles.
