Historical Information

The Yugo M72B1 RPK was the standard-issue light machine gun for the Yugoslavian armed forces . It was designed in 1972 and produced by Zastava Arms . The M72B1 is a variant of the M72, which was a near copy of the Soviet RPK light machine gun, but with some unique design features . Unlike the RPK, it does not have a scope side rail mount, and the buttstock is shaped like a regular AK-47 rifle. It also has a reinforced receiver, night sights, and no carrying handle.

The development of the M72B1 is closely linked to the evolution of the AKM assault rifle. When Russia sought to replace the milled AK-47 with a lighter, easier-to-produce version, they also wanted a corresponding light machine gun to replace the RPD . This led to the development of the RPK, which was essentially an overgrown AKM with a longer, heavier barrel and enhanced features for sustained fire. The Yugo M72B1 follows this design philosophy, incorporating the stamped receiver of the AKM while adding its own unique adaptations.

Matching serial numbers on all serialized parts - dust cover, bolt carrier, bolt, gas tube, and buttstock. Serbia didn’t always serialize barrel trunnions, so you may receive a matching number or no number.
