Description

Adopted in 1950 as France’s first NATO-caliber side-arm, the MAC 50 (Pistolet automatique modèle 1950) wrote itself into Cold-War history.  It replaced the motley mix of Lugers, P-38s, 1911s and Ruby pistols left over from World War II and accompanied French troops through the First Indochina War, the Suez Crisis and the bitter street-fighting of Algeria. Roughly 342 000 pistols were produced between 1953 and 1978 at the state arsenals of Châtellerault (MAC) and St-Étienne (MAS), yet only a small fraction ever crossed the Atlantic, making each import batch a true opportunity for collectors.

Built on a Browning-style, locked-breech action, the MAC 50 combines all-steel durability with surprisingly soft 9mm recoil.  A drop-in fire-control module lets armorers (or modern hobbyists) service the trigger in minutes, while fixed, snag-free sights and a 30 oz frame give it the solid feel of a 1911 — only slimmer, lighter and fed by economical 9x19mm.  Standard specs: 4.4″ barrel, 7.6″ overall length, 9-round single-stack magazine.

These arsenal-refinished surplus examples are Curio-and-Relic eligible and ship with two original 9-round magazines, a surplus flap holster, and a user's manual — everything you need to take the pistol from the safe to the range.

NOTE: Expect honest carry wear on the Parkerized finish, sharp mechanical function, and matching French proofmarks that anchor its provenance.
