General Info on the PKM (Pulemyot Kalashnikova Modernizirovannyi) Machine Gun
Arguably the best General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) in use today. Mechanically, the PKM is basically an AK action flipped upside down, to allow for a belt feed on the top of the receiver instead of a box magazine on the bottom.
Fully assembled, the Kalashnikov PKM is a gas-operated, belt-fed, air-cooled, general-purpose light machine gun firing from an integral bipod. It fires from an open bolt and has a quick detachable barrel. The gas system consists of a gas chamber with a manual gas regulator, and a long stroke gas piston located below the barrel. The PKM utilizes a two-stage, right side only belt feed from steel non-disintegrating belts fed from special 100-round steel boxes clamped under the receiver.
The PKM is fitted to a skeleton wood buttstock with a hinged buttplate. Standard open type sights with a hooded post front and tangent-type rear sight marked for ranges of up to 1500 meters with a windage adjustment mechanism.
