MarColMar didn't just copy the CETME Model L; they have employed the newest materials and manufacturing processes (like robot welding) to produce a rifle that is superior to the original.

Starting with original Spanish surplus parts, MarColMar incorporates the following USA-made new production parts: Cold-hammer-forged barrel, a professionally Cerakoted, robotically-welded & die-folded receiver, and upgraded furniture to produce this stunning new rifle.

What We Know

Born from the ashes of WWII, the CETME design group was established in Spain, and staffed by many Mauser employees like Dr. Ludwig Vorgrimler, who brought their research and designs with them. They would later develop and adopt the CETME C, better known to American shooters and collectors under its German licensed designation: the G3 / HK91 in 7.62x51 / .308.

Faced with the transition by militaries to the 5.56 in the 1970s, and with their pending entrance into NATO, Spain and CETME began in earnest to develop a 5.56 rifle for their military. The result was the last roller-locking rifle to be adopted by any military, and the first and only one specifically designed for the 5.56/.223 from the ground up, the CETME L.

Unlike its German cousin the HK33, it was not a scaled down version of the 7.62 receiver. A totally new design, the CETME L is thinner and has a smaller form factor. The CETME L served with Spanish troops through the 80s and 90s, and was used during their service with Coalition Forces during Operation Desert Storm. The CETME L continues to serve to this day with Spanish Reserve and Police units.

    Awesome roller-delay 5.56

Posted by Greg R. on Jul 30th 2023

The MarColMar L is simply an awesome semi-auto rifle. As the description correctly notes, it's not just a scaled-down battle rifle, but built from the ground up as a 5.56, which means it's svelte and super-handy -- it's smaller and lighter than a comparable HK, but it's no lightweight. My favorite aspects of the MarColMar L are how it shoots and handles. Thanks to its roller-delay action and the rifle's heft, the felt recoil is more like a polymer 22 Magnum (e.g. a CMR-30) than an AR, and while the controls are a bit different than an AR, once you get used to them, its a very efficient package to put on target. My L would fire both steel and brass case ammo in either 62 or 55gr, although it tended to be more accurate with NATO-spec fodder, than any inexpensive Russian ammo, or reloaded brass. Disassembly and maintenance is typical for a roller-delay, which is to say, it's a little more involved than what's required for an AR, but that's part of the charm IMO. The vintage L bayonet fits perfectly, btw, and makes for a very cool add-on. It should be noted, the L only functions with metal magazines (any NATO-spec should do, including surplus). Also, this is NOT a modified "original" L. It's more of a re-engineered, updated version. It will take some parts from the original, including furniture, but it will NOT accept the original's select-fire trigger pack. This L has been specifically produced so the original FA trigger pack isn't compatible, and cannot be made compatible. It is only a semi-auto rifle, and will always and only be a semi-auto. If you want a unique roller-delay 5.56 -- and you're almost certain to be the only person at any range with one! -- that's relatively inexpensive, reliable, reasonably accurate, and just plain cool, then the CETME L from MarColMar is probably deserving of a place in your vault... I know I didn't regret buying mine. It's definitely a hoot to shoot, and a pleasure to own! (I have no connection to MarColMar or this website; I'm just a fan of roller-delay firearms generally, and the CETME family in particular.)
