While inventorying one of our warehouses we came across a small pallet of M56 parts kits that were sorted out because of a chip in the right or left side top of the lower assembly. This seems to have occurred during the deactivation process. Folding stock and firing mechanism seem to be in working order. Wooden insert looks pretty solid. Front sight is complete. Bayonet lug is intact. Recoil spring and rear assembly is intact. Charging handle included. Bolt looks good, with ejector. Bore is nice and shiny with good rifling.
Some small pieces may be missing. Metal shows some wear. These kits have been in storage from the late 90's to the early 2000's.
As a machine gun, the M56 was designed to deliver a heavy volume of fire, making it a valuable asset in infantry support roles and other applications. With its high rate of fire, the M56 could rapidly engage multiple targets, and its compact size made it relatively easy to transport and maneuver in close quarters. When compared to the German MP40, the M56 offered greater firepower and a longer effective range, making it a more versatile weapon in a wider range of combat scenarios. Despite its origins, the M56 was widely considered to be a reliable and effective machine gun in its own right, and was widely used by the Yugoslav People's Army and other military forces in the region.
