Description

The CZ-82 (also designated vz. 82) was developed in the early 1980s at the renowned Česká zbrojovka factory in Uherský Brod, Czechoslovakia, during the height of the Cold War. When the Czechoslovak military, under Soviet influence, transitioned from the aging 7.62x25mm cartridge to the 9x18mm Makarov round, Czech engineers chose not to simply adopt the Soviet Makarov PM pistol. Instead, they designed their own superior handgun that would serve as the standard-issue sidearm for Czechoslovak military and police forces from 1983 through the early 1990s, remaining in service even after the country's dissolution in 1993.

The CZ-82 represented a significant advancement over the Soviet Makarov design. Czech engineers equipped it with a 12-round magazine capacity compared to the Makarov's 8 rounds, providing a 50% increase in firepower. The pistol featured superior ergonomics, better fit and finish, and ambidextrous controls that made it easier to operate for both left and right-handed shooters. The Czechs even developed their own "pistolový náboj vz. 82" ammunition, claiming it to be 20% more powerful than standard Soviet 9x18mm loads, though the CZ-82 reliably functions with all 9x18mm Makarov ammunition.

This semi-automatic, double-action/single-action pistol quickly earned a reputation for exceptional reliability and accuracy. Its all-steel construction provides durability and helps manage recoil, while the DA/SA trigger system offers versatility for different shooting scenarios. The 3.8-inch barrel with polygonal rifling delivers excellent accuracy, and the compact 7.88-inch overall length makes it suitable for concealed carry. The CZ-82 has become highly sought after by collectors and shooters alike, representing an excellent example of Cold War-era Czech firearms manufacturing excellence. Production ran from 1983 to 1992, when the design was merged with the commercial CZ-83 variant.

This particular example is in Good Condition and comes complete with a Right Hand VEP Hip Holster and one 12-round magazine, making it ready for the range or as an addition to your collection. As a C&R Eligible firearm, it can be shipped directly to collectors with a valid Curio & Relic FFL license. The CZ-82 offers shooters an affordable opportunity to own a piece of Cold War history while enjoying a reliable and accurate pistol chambered in the readily available 9x18mm Makarov caliber.
