Czechoslovakia’s Česká Zbrojovka introduced the vz. 50 in 1950 as a modern, police-issue replacement for wartime side-arms. Built entirely of blued steel and chambered for .32 ACP (7.65 Browning), the pistol uses a simple straight-blow-back action yet offers features that were forward-looking for its day: an ambidextrous safety that also decocks the hammer, a double-action / single-action trigger, and an automatic slide hold-open on the last round. Despite its compact profile the CZ 50 is very shootable, its 3.8-inch cold-hammer-forged barrel and fixed post-and-notch sights yield respectable accuracy, while an 8-round single-stack magazine keeps the grip slender for concealed or plain-clothes carry.
Overall length is 6.8 inches, height 4.7 inches, and width a trim 1.1 inches; unloaded weight tips the scale at 24 ounces. Those dimensions put the pistol squarely in the Walther PP class that inspired it. On the range, a standard 71-grain FMJ clocks about 950 fps from the 3.8-inch tube; modern 60-grain JHP loads can break 1,050 fps, and recoil remains mild thanks to the pistol’s all-steel heft.
Your purchase options:
-
Good Condition — roughly 70–80 percent original bluing with honest holster wear on high edges and muzzle; plastic grip panels solid and crack-free; bores bright with strong rifling. All controls—DA/SA trigger, slide stop, mag catch, safety/decocker—have been checked and function correctly. A classic Cold-War shooter that still presents well.
-
Fair Condition — finish worn to mottled gray/blue, scattered freckling or light surface rust, arsenal tape repairs or hairline cracks in the grips (see listing photos). Mechanically serviceable: the action cycles, the safety decocks properly, and the bore shows visible rifling, though frosting is possible.
Every pistol ships with one original 8-round magazine and, like all firearms, must transfer through a licensed FFL. Whether you choose a handsome Good-grade example for a vintage carry piece or a rough-and-ready Fair-grade pistol for range tinkering, you’re getting a genuine slice of East-Bloc history, more than 200,000 CZ 50s armed Czech police and security forces between 1950 and 1970, only a fraction of which ever made it to the U.S. surplus market. Pick your grade and add an affordable Cold-War collectible to the stable while supplies last.
