History in Brief
- Post-War Pioneer. Adopted in 1953, the Vigneron M1 was Belgium’s answer to the MP-40 and M3 "Grease Gun" chambered in 9mm and engineered for low-cost mass production.
- Fabrique Nationale Heritage. Although designed by Captain Georges Vigneron, production ran at FN Herstal and later at ABL ateliers, making it a true FN pattern arm.
- Colonial Service. Belgian paratroopers and gendarmes carried the Vigneron from Congo and Algeria to UN peace-keeping missions throughout the 1960s.
- Straight-Blowback Simplicity. The open-bolt, tubular-receiver design shares many layout cues with the British Sten, making it a favorite among U.S. builders for semi-auto conversions.
