It was the second all stainless steel revolver made by Smith \u0026amp; Wesson, the first being the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Smith_%26_Wesson_Model_60\"\u003eSmith \u0026amp; Wesson Model 60\u003c\/a\u003e. It was widely used by several U.S. police, sheriff and state agencies and was a popular choice in high humidity states because the stainless model 64 was more corrosion and rust resistant than the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bluing_(steel)\"\u003eblued\u003c\/a\u003e Model 10.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"\u003eOriginally offered in two variants, a 4\" taper barrelled square butt or a 2\" round butt, the Model 64 has since been offered in numerous configurations.
